Describe yourself in three words?
Lucky, Handsome, Caring
How would you describe your leadership skills?
Good question I would describe my leadership skills as very good. I am currently over the local bush walking team out here in New Zealand and find that my colleagues are really getting used to the trek I take them on.
What do you see yourself doing five years from now?
Training Maryland lobbying hard to get Hacka introduced to warm-ups.
How does it feel to be a part of the New Zealand football team?
It feels great, I suppose learning the Hacka to perform before every game was tough at first but any of my mates over in Ireland would know that I was always dainty on my feet.
What kind of a rush do you get when you are playing a game ?
I get a great rush playing for Wellington, the competitive edge that is out here is just something I wanted, I feel it was lacking with Maryland but I suppose when you have Frodo and Bilbo Bagins left and right corner backs your always going to enjoy it.
Would you trade football for any other sport?
Actually if you’d asked me that question 3years ago I would have said no, but now that I’m living in New Zealand I suppose I would have to lean towards maybe playing a little Rugby. I’ve tried out for a few teams over here and the feeling is I’d make a great hooker or prop.
What inspires you to play football in New Zealand?
Ah just the fun playing for the local club really, meeting new mates and becoming some what of a legend with Wellington GAA. Sometimes I get to kick the ball out field which never happened in Ireland so I’m well happy mate.
Is it hard to juggle living abroad and working and football??
Yes, its hard alright but I show no less commitment to working than I do to sport or living out here. It’s a rat race mate!
What is your position on the team and in the HACKA ?
My position currently is out field in the forwards as we have a better goalie than me between the posts so I’m accommodated out the field. I am still at the back of the hacka I’m too pretty to be put up the front.
In your opinion, what was the best player in the Maryland Team 2009?
Well just going by what I heard and read as we don’t get Maryland TV out in the bush, but I would have to go with Sauage Fingers himself and a dear old mate of mind Conor Farrell. I read a lot about his polished hair sorry performances at the back and now that he got the green van washed its easier for him to concentrate on his football. Always steady under a high ball and regularly afraid of the bar, sorry losing!
If asked would you join the New Zealand Senior Squad?
And finally have you a message for the boys back home?
Ahh, just to not forget me and to tell them that I'm thinking of them while i'm out my back yard sitting in the sunshine know that its winter back in Ireland and they're probably still doing up and downs. Its not easy hahaha!
Thank you John the hacka Murray
